The Epigenetic Diet©: A 7-Day Plan
This plan follows Chapter 18’s progression: sustained distal fermentation, microbiome–polyphenol interactions, controlled fermentation kinetics, polyphenol diversity, resistant starch, cruciferous-vegetable signaling, and a final metabolic-reset day.
The meals work as a coordinated system. Breakfast initiates fermentation, lunch supplies the greatest diversity of plant substrates and epigenetic signals, and a lighter dinner supports overnight fermentation while limiting prolonged nutrient signaling.

Preparation Principles
- Cook potatoes, rice, and whole grains in advance, refrigerate them, and use them cold or gently reheated to increase resistant starch.
- Favor three defined meals over continuous grazing.
- Make lunch the most diverse and substantial plant-based meal.
- Keep evening protein portions moderate and make Day 7 dinner especially light.
- Include legumes, intact whole grains, and diverse vegetables throughout the week.
- Rotate berries, vegetables, legumes, herbs, seeds, and whole grains rather than relying on one “superfood.”
- Use extra-virgin olive oil as the principal added fat.
- Select fermented foods without excessive added sugar. Use unpasteurized varieties when appropriate and safely stored.
- Drink water throughout the day. Unsweetened green tea may be included earlier in the day.
- Minimize refined carbohydrates, sugary drinks, processed meats, excessive alcohol, and heavily processed foods.
Fiber Introduction and Safety
The combined use of psyllium, acacia fiber, legumes, resistant starch, and cruciferous vegetables represents a substantial fiber load. Increase these foods gradually if they are not already part of the usual diet, drink adequate fluids, and reduce quantities if significant discomfort develops.
Psyllium should be taken with sufficient liquid and separated from medications when advised by a pharmacist or clinician. People with swallowing problems, bowel narrowing or obstruction, active gastrointestinal disease, kidney-related dietary restrictions, or medically prescribed diets should obtain professional guidance before following this plan.
