The four EpiNutrition principles
Build: strengthen the anabolic meal signal
Use leucine-rich complete protein and sufficient essential amino acids to support the mTORC1-associated muscle-protein-synthesis response, especially around meaningful muscular demand.
Power: support mitochondrial adaptation
Create energy demand through activity, then support PGC-1α-associated remodeling with adequate energy, micronutrients, dietary quality, and recovery.
Sustain: provide overnight protein
Where appropriate for the individual, a slowly digested, high-quality protein such as casein can extend amino-acid availability during the overnight fasting period.
Recover: design the evening meal
An earlier, balanced evening meal with protein and foods that slow digestion can support satiety and sustained nutrient availability without encouraging a very large meal close to sleep.
